To the High Place of Sacrifice

Description

The hike up to the High Place of Sacrifice affords a sweeping view of Petra. Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Empire in the 1st century BC, and following Roman annexation and earthquakes, was eventually deserted by all but local Bedouin tribes. In 1812 a Swiss explorer disguised himself to convince a Bedouin guide and "rediscover" Petra.
